At Oak Trust Properties, giving back to the Charleston community is central to who we are. Recently, I had the chance to volunteer at Fresh Future Farm, a remarkable local organization fighting food insecurity and advocating for food justice in Charleston. This volunteer day gave me a deeper understanding of the challenges many communities face, particularly those living in food deserts, where access to affordable, nutritious food is limited.

Why We Volunteer at Fresh Future Farm

For the past twelve years, Fresh Future Farm has been a pillar in the Charleston community, working tirelessly to bridge the gap in food deserts and provide fresh, locally grown produce. More than just a farm, they serve as a community grocery, advocate, and educational resource for sustainable farming practices. Despite operating on a shoestring budget, their impact on the community is profound, which is why we felt compelled to support their mission.

Personal Reflections from Our Day on the Farm

Volunteering at Fresh Future Farm was an incredibly rewarding experience. Although I was the only member of the Oak Trust Properties team able to attend this time, I was proud to represent our company in this meaningful initiative. Working side by side with the passionate staff at the farm gave me a renewed appreciation for how important access to fresh food is, especially for under-resourced communities.
